Colorado River Fly Fishing Report: August 2020

The fly fishing on the Colorado River from Pump House to Dotsero has been decent some days and outstanding on others. Increased water levels on the Colorado River have helped out the fishing tremendously, however it is the Colorado River and it can be a finicky pig. Some days they are nuking grasshoppers drifted along the banks and other days they seem to be hiding on the moon. Regardless “it sure is pretty out there.”

Flies that have been hot for us are Chubby Chernobly, Royal PMX, Renegade, Caddis Jig, PMD Hot spot jig, Olive Hares Ear Jig and Midges. The Streamer bite has been fun but we are mostly finding fish chasing and not committing to eat. White, Olive and Black streamers are working early in the AM. If you take any advice from this report take this, stay away from the Colorado River on the weekends. It is an absolute zoo and unless you are on the river by 6am, you are going to be playing bumper boats all day long.

Expect the fly fishing to stay consistent as long as we have good flows. We are hoping for cooler days, cloud cover and rain but the forecast is showing bright sun for the next 10 days. For last minute reports or to book a guided float trip on the Colorado River, feel free to reach out any time.
