Colorado River Fly Fishing Report

It has been an incredibly warm start to the summer and due to lack of snowpack we are seeing high afternoon water temps on all of our rivers. Especially the Colorado River. We are hoping for rain to cool things off as well as an increase in streamflows. Until then we will only be offering half day fly fishing trips in the morning. The early morning fly fishing has been excellent but quickly shuts down as water temperatures reach the mid 60’s. Trout have been looking up for Yellow Sallies, PMDs and Caddis. Dry dropper has been a great rig in along the banks as well as the fast riffles. Barr’s PMD emerger, Yellow foam back RS2’s, Yellow Sally Nymph variations, Graphic Caddis and Caddis Pupa have been working well as dropper flies. We recommend picking up a thermometer if you do not have one and constantly check water temps. Once the river reaches 65 degrees, reel it up and head home. If you have any questions feel free to reach us at the shop 970-368-5959. Thank you for being a good river steward.
