Vail Colorado Fly Fishing Report

The fly fishing in Vail Colorado has been outstanding. We are seeing great Midge Hatches from noon until 3pm which are bringing a lot of fish to the surface. Dry fly fishing has been very productive for the majority of the day which has been a nice change from nymphing. Our dry fly rigs have been a variety of adult midge patterns such as: Mayhem Midge (black #18-#16), Griffiths Gnat, Roy Palm Special Midge Emerger and a couple others that we tie that resemble a shuck midge. The water is flowing around 60 CFS and is very clear. 5x and 6x are a must. The streamer bite is not quite there yet but I would expect it to pick up once we have a bump in flows. If you are on the water early nymphing is going to be you best bet at finding trout. Zebra Midges, Midgezilla, Chocolate thunder, Black RS2’s, Pheasant Tails and eggs are all putting a bend in the rod. We have not seen any Redds but if you happen to stumble upon one please do not target these fish. Cooler weather is in the forecast which might slow down the dry fly bite for a couple days. As always feel free to give us a call at 970-368-5959 for more information.

This video was shot last week on one of our private beats on the Eagle River. Fishing is incredible right now.
