Fly Fishing Report Eagle River July 26

Fishing on the Eagle River has been excellent despite high water levels. Caddis, Yellow Sallies and PMD’s have been hatching daily bringing many trout to the surface. Current water levels in Avon, Colorado are 974 CFS and gin clear. Expect water levels to drop daily and perhaps rapidly if they slow down the water coming out of Homestake Reservoir. For the last 2 weeks 95% of our guided fly fishing trips have been float trips. This is an incredibly fun way to fish and see the Eagle River. If you are unfamiliar with floating the Eagle River we highly recommend that you get into a boat with an oarsmen who knows the river well.

The mid to late afternoon dry fly fishing on the Eagle River has been great. Sporadic hatches throughout the day are keeping the fish on the surface and they are willing to eat dry flies. Our tops dry fly patterns for the Eagle River have been; Yellow Sponge Bob, Royal Wulff, X2- Caddis, Caddis Pupa, Crystal Stimi, Brown Chubby and other caddis variations.

Dry dropper has also been effective in all water types and a good way to find some larger trout eating just under the surface. Our best dropper set up have been a Jig Hooked Hares Ear dropped off a Brown Chubby.
