Eagle River Fly Fishing Report: September 10th 2019

The Fly Fishing on the Eagle River has been good and should get better with the cooler weather in the forecast. Fishing with a Dry Dropper set-up has been a good way to find Trout sitting in the shallow riffles. Midges, Small Caddis, Baetis and Stones are good nymph patterns to be dropping off the bend of a hopper. You will see that the river is very very clear and as the sun gets higher in the sky you may have to drop your tippet size down to 6x. If you are willing to move your feet, the streamer bite should be good. We have not been throwing the meat stick quite yet, but with a chill in the air it might be time. Small buggers in Olive, Black, Tan and White are good streamer patterns to be moving across the river.

Lately the hot flies have been: Chubby Chernobyl, Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail, Cream Midge, X2- Caddis, Rainbow Warrior Jig, Hares Ear, Chocolate Thunder and Foam Back RS2’s.

Expect the trout to start moving into deeper water as we get closer to fall, but until then be sure to fish the shallow riffles and buckets that are scattered throughout the Eagle River.
