Eagle River Fly Fishing Report

The Eagle River is the lowest that many of us have ever seen it. With rain in the extended forecast we are hoping to see a small bump in flows. Until then we will keep our fingers crossed for more moisture. Cooler nights have helped with water temperatures but given the current flows we are still only offering half day wade trips on the Eagle River. There is no need for nymphing as a dry dropper rig will get you deep enough to find any trout on the bottom of the river. Small midges and BWOs are taking fish on the surface during the late morning. Look for the deeper pockets and shallow riffles there are trout in all of them. If you find a pod of rising trout be sure to be stealthy, the fish have been very spooky. Longer leaders and lighter tippet (6-7x) have been necessary for presenting small dries on the surface. Give us a call, 970-368-5959, for last minute fishing reports on the Eagle River.

Best Flies – Griffiths Gnat, Root Beer Bling Midge, Para Adams, Black Jig, Pheasant tail jig, Zebra Midges (Olive, Black, Tan), Wood Cutter Baetis.
