Colorado Fly Fishing Report: January 2019

Happy new Year. Our apologies for the lack of Colorado fishing reports, things got very busy and time slipped away. Regardless we have still been on the water and fishing has been great (when the weather is warm enough). Winter fly fishing in Colorado is excellent. We have had a great start to the winter with snow and are currently above average for snowpack. We will keep hoping for more snow as we move forward into the new year. We still have some catching up to do. Most of our Winter fly fishing trips have been on the Eagle River. Colder temps have kept a lot of the river locked up but we are fortunate enough to have some open water on our Private Lease. Our guided trips are hitting the river between 11-12 in the morning and fishing through the warmest parts of the day. Light nymph rigs have been working well in slow deeper runs. Midges in a variety of colors and sizes have been working well for our guides, the best colors have been Olive, Purple and Black. Occasionally an egg has been taking some fish as well as a worm. No need to rush out the door as there is usually slush on the river early in the morning. We will be guiding all winter and look forward to spending a day on the water with you. Give us call 970-368-5959 for last minute reports and river conditions.
