Roaring Fork Fly Fishing Report
We have been floating the Roaring Fork and the fly fishing has been good top to bottom. Midges and BWO’s are sporadically coming off throughout the day and we are finding a lot of fish feeding off the surface. Mayhem midges, Shuck Midges, Adams, Sprout BOW’s and occasionally Black Sponge Bob Caddis have been taking trout on the surface. Rising trout have been in the shallow slicks tight to the bank as well as in the riffles. Nymphing the deeper pools has also been very effective with Pats Rubber Leg, 20 inchers, Pheasant tails, Eggs, Micro Mays, Zebra Midges, Barrs BWO Emergers and more of the like. There is a ton of food in the water right now so do not be afraid to try a variety of nymphs. The water is very low and clear so be sure to throw some 5x and 6x on your smaller bugs, it will make a difference. The streamer bite has been hit or miss. Black, white and olive leech patterns have been getting some attention and certainly worth employing if you are willing to put in the time. As always give us a call for last minute reports and fly fishing information. 970-368-5959.
